Viola Fern Dodd was born October 3, 1924, on a farm near Whitten, Iowa in Grundy County. She was the only child of Stella Price Dodd and James Franklin Dodd. She lived on her birthplace until she was eleven years of age. The family then moved to Dike and lived there for four years prior to purchasing a farm near Westgate. After two years, they sold their farm and moved into the town of Sumner. Viola graduated with the Class of 1943 in Sumner. She taught country school for one year, worked as a bookkeeper at the Alta Vista Bank, the Sumner Bakery, Hammel’s Grocery Store and Waskow’s Grocery Store. On May 20, 1951, she was united in marriage with Erhardt Kueker, at the church that was formerly the United Brethren in Sumner. Four children were born to this union, Wendall, Larry, Darwin, and Helen. Viola was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner, United Methodist Women, Crochet Club (which she started). She enjoyed crochet, cross stitch, plastic canvas, loved cook books and cooking, crossword puzzles, flowers, and gardening.

Viola is survived by her three children, Wendall (Diane Weltner) Kueker of Sumner, Darwin (Diane) Kueker of Cresco, and Helen Elaine Kueker of Sumner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erhardt who died in 1982; her son, Larry who died in 1956; parents; and one stillborn sister, Helen Elaine.

To the family,
I moved from Sumner 30 years ago but I still remember your Mother. She was such a pleasant lady and I still remember her as if it was yesterday. Continue sharing your memories with others because she will remain in hearts of a lot of people who knew her.

My deepest condolences to Helen, Wendall, and Darwin. I am so happy I was able to get to know Viola over the past couple years when my sister Erin was one of her daily caretakers. I looked forward to visits with her on my days off from work. Her joy was infectious and always had great stories to share. She will be so dearly missed by many. Peace and prayers to you all!
